Selling a Seasonal or Tourism Business in Stratford and Elora

Towns like Stratford, Elora and St. Jacobs draw visitors from across Ontario, and many local restaurants, shops, inns and tour operators earn much of their revenue in peak season. That's normal, but it can make buyers nervous if the numbers aren't clear.

Show the full year, not just the busy months

Prepare monthly revenue and costs for at least the last three years. Explain the quiet months and the fixed costs you carry through them, so a buyer can see how the business performs over a whole year.

Separate the business from you

Owners often work very long hours in peak season. Document who does what, how you staff and schedule, and what it would cost a buyer to replace your own work. Buyers pay more when they can see the business doesn't depend on one person.

Document what drives the season

Write down what brings customers in: events and festivals, group bookings, repeat visitors, online reviews, booking platforms and key supplier relationships.

Show what transfers with the business

Your website, social media accounts, booking systems, reviews and customer email lists all have value. List them, and plan how you'll hand over access.

Time the handover

Many buyers prefer to take over before the busy season so they can learn the business with your help. Plan your timeline so the new owner isn't learning everything at once in peak season.
